Ms Huong Giang
2005 Early that year Ms. Duong Huong Giang was working for a trading company by the name of Dai Hung in the Oil & Gas sector as a Sales Director. Due to circumstances, this company was abruptly discontinued and this left Ms. Giang contemplating her future. Two principals of Dai Hung, IPEC of Canada and Unisplice of the UK, encouraged Ms. Giang to set up on her own and consequently Star Engineering Joint Stock Company was officially registered on 3rd of November 2005 in Vungtau, Vietnam. The first company logo was designed by Ms. Giang herself.

2006 The first full year of operation took off after TET with the rental of a 100 square feet office on Chu Manh Trinh street barely furnished and the recruitment of SEC’s first employee Ms. Le Thi Dung (Ms. Giang’ sister in law) as deputy Director. Soon after the first contract was signed with PV Gas, worth 30,000 USD. The first English company brochure was published with help of Derek McDonald. Much time and effort was spent that year together with CAPE Group Singapore to tender a pipeline repair project for PV Gas. Total turnover for 2005/2006 was 70,000 USD and Ms. Le Quynh Diep joined the company as sales trainee.

2007 The number of staff was growing and the company moved to the first floor of a multi storey house on 24 Chu Manh Trinh street. Cooperation started with IHC Hydrohammer on the Su Tu Vang project for Vietsovpetro. Turnover for 2007 grew to 500,000 USD and staff increased to 8.

2008 This year saw further growth in SEC trading activities for valves, fittings and spare parts and the award of the Ca Mau pipeline inspection and cleaning project by PV Gas to ROSEN Malaysia, thus adding pipeline services to SEC’s products line. In the latter part of 2008 a rental contract was signed with COOEC in China for the rental of the S-750 hammer and a S-500 hammer was brought from China. Also late 2008 contacts were established between SEC and Siemens Oil & Gas in Singapore. SEC was officially appointed service agent for Vietnam and development started on SEC’s Industrial Services activity.

2009 Due to expanding customer activities in Ho Chi Minh City, SEC HCMC rep. office was established in 32-34 Ngo Duc Ke street, District 1, on the 1st of May 2009. In the middle of 2009 SEC was awarded the supply of two gas gathering compressor sets for PV Gas that initiated the partnership with Austcold from Australia and Howden from the UK.
In order to realize the strategy to develop an Industrial Services arm Lien Thanh Company in Dong Xuyen IZ, Vungtau was purchased in the latter part of the year. Turnover grew to over 10 Million USD .

Lien Thanh company2010 In September 2010 SEC was granted the distributor ship of IHC Holland BV, part of IHC Merwede. This diverted part of the SEC’s focus to the market for Dredging equipment in Vietnam. Further cooperation was started with PRONAL Elastomer Engineering and IHC Handling Systems vof, completing SEC’s full service offering for jacket construction and installation.
A second offshore piling hammer was sold to Vietsovpetro consolidating SEC’s position as a leading supplier of piling technology. As a symbol of SEC’s professional development a new logo and corporate identity was launched.

“Service Energizes Customers”

2011 Due to an increased number of staff the SEC representative office in Ho Chi Minh City moved 4 floors higher in the same building, doubling the available office space. The entire 10th floor was renovated according to SEC’s signature design. Further, 2011 saw a sharp increase in Service and Rental activity. In May SEC supplied the first IHC Pile up-ending frame for the Dai Hung II jacket construction project on rental basis. IHC Handling Systems, PRONAL and SEC cooperated on the first fully integrated product and service package to Vietsovpetro.

2012 As a result of SEC’s increasing international profile and the need for professional corporate services management decided to move the administrative head office from Vungtau City to Ho Chi Minh City in this year. October 2012 saw the sale of a record size Howden gas booster compressor package to Vietsovpetro. Overall 2012 was also a particularly busy year for the sale of IPEC/DMI pipe laying equipment. Turnover exceeded 15 Million USD over 2012.

2013 In March, more than 2 years after starting cooperation with IHC Holland, the first IHC Beaver Dredger was delivered to Lung Lo company in Hanoi. The start of SEC’s increasing role in the Dredging market. After some delay due to the overall economic situation in Vietnam, the construction of SEC’s Base in Dong Xuyen IZ, Vungtau officially commenced on 15th of July 2013. Completion is expected middle of 2014. For 2013 and 2014 a healthy turnover growth is expected in Service and Rental business.
